About the Dudhsagar Waterfalls in Goa :

Dudhsagar Waterfalls springing from from a lofty height of 600m is located on the Goa-Karnataka border. It lies at a distance of 60 km from Panaji and 10 km from Colem Railway Station. The name of this waterfall evolves from the Konkani name for the falls, Dudhsagar meaning ‘sea of milk’. This is because froth is formed due to the speedy surge of water from the majestic heights. In spite of being a perilous spot due to its slippery rocks, it is a popular site for trekking and hiking. The fall looks stunning post monsoon as it ripples with bubbling foam-like water.

The fall overlooks a steep, crescent-shaped edge of a valley covered with beautiful tropical forest. Monkeys, birds, bees, butterflies have carved their own niche amidst the flora of the region and the plunge pool abounds in aquatic life.

The Dudhsagar Falls is one of the most interesting falls of India and the largest and highest fall of Goa. Nearby is the Tamdi Surla Temple built by the Kadambas.

The road to this mighty fall is inaccessible during the monsoon season .The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) runs tours to Dudhsagar on Saturday and Sunday from Panaji and Calangute. You could also take a train to Dudhsagar from Madgaon (Margao) and get there in an hour and half. However during summer, when the level of the water is low, you can hire a Jeep and access the foot of the falls from either Molem or Collem.

There are a number of nearby accommodations, none however located at Dudhsagar itself.

How to Reach Dudhsagar Waterfalls :

eing the most well-known waterfall in Goa, Dudhsagar falls is a prominent stop on tours conducted by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation and private operators. The falls can also be reached by a train journey from Vasco or Margao. At Collem, in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary near Mollem, there is a railway station where the train stops to pick up passengers for the journey to the waterfalls.

Arvalem waterfall with an altitude of 70 feet is located at Arvalem, about 2 km from Sanquelim and 8 km from Bicholim, in Valpoi taluka, North Goa. It falls in a straight drop and is in its highest glory during the monsoon season. The fall looks stunning with the thunderous gush of water cascading down the rocky terrain of the mountain behind it. The monsoon rain roils the water of this waterfall into a muddy brown color and makes it look more interesting.

In the vicinity of this picturesque site is the 5th century Rock Cut caves called the "Aravalem Caves" also known as the Pandava caves, named after the 5 Pandava brothers of the epic "Mahabharata". The Shree Rudreshwar Temple is also located in the same place it and is a site of an annual Shivratri Zatra.
The Government has also developed a park from which the magnificent view of the waterfall can be relished delightfully.

This secluded region with the astounding vista of the leaping waters in the laps of nature is an ideal destination for private picnics and bird watching. The famous site is also a favorite hunt of the filmmaker, film directors and photographers who love capturing the beauty of this idyllic place.

How to Reach Arvalem Waterfalls : You can reach the Sanquelim village by taking a two hour bus ride from Mapusa. But to reach the Arvalem waterfalls, you will have to walk for about half an hour or take a motorbike taxi.

Dudhsagar waterfalls :


Sixty kilometers from Goa, on the Goa Karnataka are the Dudhsagar waterfalls. The name being such because from distance the waterfall looks as if streams of milk (dudh) are flowing down. Falling from a height of two thousand feet, Dudhsagar falls are among the 100 highest waterfalls in the world and one of highest falls in the country. Situated among the tropical forests, plunging down the western ghats into a crescent shaped valley, the falls present a breathtaking view from the bottom and a even better one from the top. Though journey to the top takes at least a couple of hours passing through the bushes, boulders and water but its worth that. One can also swim at the bottom of the fall.

Arvalem Waterfalls :


Nine kilometers south of Bicholim town, as you come out of the Rudreshwar temple, descend down the stairs and a twenty four feet high waterfall will welcome your sight. Arvalem waterfall forms a huge lake at the bottom. One can either take a swim or if you want to explore a bit, the place has Arvalem caves. The waterfall, is fully rapturous after the monsoon. The government has also made a park here from where one can enjoy the scenic beauty.

Kesarval Waterfall :

Kesarval Spring is situated 22 km away from Panaji on Verna plateau off the Panaji-Margao highway. The spring is surrounded by tropical woodlands and swaying betel palms and emerges from the hard rocks.

The spring is in its full glory in the monsoons and looks fabulous, brimming with sparkling water. The word "Kesar-val" is derived from the Indian word for eagles that used to maintain a colony here among the afforested slopes. The spring has a reputation among the locals and the bathers who come from faraway places, of having medicinal properties in its waters.
